IO coaching to Level 7
A step-by-step Individual Oral process — choosing a global issue, pairing the right literary and non-literary extracts, and rehearsing the 10-minute delivery — built on the system behind our students' Level 7 orals.
ElitePrep HK is a specialist IB tutoring centre in Sheung Wan, and English is our flagship subject. Our tutors teach both Language A courses — Language and Literature, and Literature — the way they are assessed: guided textual analysis for Paper 1, the comparative essay for Paper 2, a global-issue process for the Individual Oral, and dedicated HL Essay mentorship.

ElitePrep HK's IB English tutoring is by far the best in Hong Kong.
I did my English IO with Uzair and he really helped me plan out the entire thing and practise with me.
Uzair is a great IB English teacher who taught me the finer points of Paper 1. I would highly recommend him.

My tutor worked closely with me and guided me through all the steps to secure a 7.
IB English rewards analytical precision against published criteria, not vocabulary flexing. Our tutors teach exactly what examiners reward in each component — and prove it in results.
94% of our IB English students scored Level 6 or 7 in recent exams — a subject-specific record we update every results season.
We have helped 250+ IB English students boost their grade by two levels within a short time period, using a tried-and-tested assessment system.
Thesis statements, topic sentences, quotation selection, timed writing — Paper 1, Paper 2, the Individual Oral and the HL Essay each get a dedicated process rather than generic essay help.
Annotated exemplars cover the actual works and text types students study — from prose and poetry to advertisements and speeches — so model answers are never abstract.
A step-by-step Individual Oral process — choosing a global issue, pairing the right literary and non-literary extracts, and rehearsing the 10-minute delivery — built on the system behind our students' Level 7 orals.
Fully annotated Level 7 samples for Paper 1 guided textual analysis and Paper 2 comparative essays, plus sample IOs on different global issues — so students see exactly what the top band looks like.
We have helped 250+ IB English students raise their grade by two levels within a short period, with 94% of our IB English students scoring Level 6 or 7.
Tuition covers both IB English A courses — Language and Literature, and Literature — at HL and SL, across the three areas of exploration and the seven central concepts, with a dedicated method for every assessed component.
Each component has its own playbook: our Paper 1 guide for guided textual analysis, our Paper 2 guide for choosing quotations and structuring the comparative essay, and our Individual Oral guide for securing a 7 in the IO — alongside HL Essay mentorship and timed past-paper practice with Level 7 samples to compare against.
Meet your tutor, sit a short diagnostic on a past-paper question, and see exactly how we teach — at no cost.
We map your target grade against every topic and paper, then schedule sessions around school assessments and mocks.
Weekly sessions pair content with timed exam practice, and parents receive progress notes after every block.
ElitePrep's IB English tutors combine a subject-specific record — 94% of our English students at Level 6 or 7, and 250+ students raised by two grade levels — with a criteria-led method: dedicated processes for Paper 1, Paper 2, the Individual Oral and the HL Essay, supported by fully annotated Level 7 samples.
Language and Literature studies literary works alongside non-literary texts such as advertisements, speeches and articles, while Literature focuses on literary works alone, including works in translation. Both courses share the same assessment structure — Paper 1, Paper 2 and the Individual Oral, plus the HL Essay at Higher Level — and we tutor both at HL and SL.
Paper 1 is a guided textual analysis, so identify the text type and its conventions, build a thesis about how meaning is constructed, and support it with tightly chosen evidence. The fastest way to improve is to read an exemplary analysis, write your own on the same text, then compare against Level 7 samples — the exact cycle we run in lessons.
Choose a global issue that genuinely connects your two texts, select extracts that let you analyse both content and form, and rehearse the 10-minute delivery and 5 minutes of questions until the structure is second nature. Our IO process covers every step, with Level 7 sample orals across different global issues.
The Individual Oral is internally assessed by your teacher and externally moderated by the IB. All orals are recorded, and samples are sent to the IB for moderation — which is why we rehearse until your delivery is consistent on record, not just on paper.
The HL Essay is a 1,200–1,500-word formal essay on a work or text studied in the course, worth 20% of the grade at Higher Level. We mentor it like coursework: choosing a focused line of inquiry, structuring the argument and refining drafts against the assessment criteria.
Degrees built on analysis and communication — law, English and other humanities, journalism and many social sciences — value English HL highly, and it strengthens any application as evidence of strong analytical writing. We advise students on level choice with their university plans in mind.
Yes. Online English sessions run on interactive whiteboards with the same tutors, annotated samples and lesson structure as in-person classes at our Sheung Wan centre — a common choice for students with heavy schedules.
One lesson is enough to feel the difference. No commitment, no charge — just a tutor, a past-paper question and a clear plan for Level 7.
